Above is an aerial view of Linnich and the neighboring Roer Valley.
Taken in December, there is a light covering of snow on the roofs of the
abandoned houses and around the farms. Fairly swilt even at this early date,
the Roer river (which is seen in the center of the picture) later became a
raging torrent, flooding most of the fields between the railroad
track on the right and the irregular wooded bluff on the left.
