sPzAbt. 501 Organization

The following table shows the organization of sPzAbt. 501 in Tunisia. This organization is consistent with existing photographs, however, considerable disagreement remains among researchers on the tactical numbering of the panzers in the command Trupp of each Kompanie.

[Updated with discovery of a photo of Tiger #02 and #213.]

An original German report lists the tactical numbers of all nine Tigers in 1. Ko. including Tiger #11.

Thomas Anderson in “Des Tiger dans les Djebels” identifies the following panzers as confirmed (“Numéros confirmés par photographies ou rapports originaux”): 01, 02, 03, 04, 07, 111, 112, 113, 114, 121, 122, 123, 124, 131, 132, 133, 134, 141, 142, 143, 144, 213, 222, 223, 231, 232, 233, and 242.

We have photos of 02, 05 of the Stab.

For the 1.Kp we’re only missing photos of the 144 and what I knew of as the command tank, 100. Never knew the command tanks were numbered or equipped this way. What is the source of information? I’ve been away studying Shermans.

For the 2.Kp we have photos of the 213 after renumbering to 813. Same for the 823, 832, 833 and 844.

Several months ago I took a break from Shermans and created an updated chart which I recently posted at Tiif.de and RCUniverse. I can send you a copy if you like. Most of my collection of photos of the 501st resides on a failed Raid-0 Array thatI don’t have the excess funds to retrieve yet but the photos can be found on the net.

I have been following the interesting discussions on tiif.de.

I would be interested in any pointers to missing photos. The chart doesn’t display as confirmed the Tigers of 2.Ko. that could correspond to 8.Ko. Tigers. I saw the argument for Tiger “02” on tiff.de which seems convincing, but I chose not to show it as confirmed.
