By the end of November, German resistance to the Allied drive north of Aachen focused on the road bridges at Linnich. Here the newly arrived 304th Volksgrenadier Division and 10th SS Panzer Division, their backs to the Roer, were desperately defending one of the three main crossings to the Cologne Plain.
